Kevin Turner
Kev’s love for skiing started at 11 years old, going on a very windy school ski trip in the
Cairngorms in Scotland. The ski trips continued every year up to the age of 16.
At 17 he qualified as an Artificial Slope Ski Instructor and worked weekends at Harlow Dry Ski
Slope in Essex for 5 years. During this time he became more qualified and became a Ski
Development Coach and was involved in instructor training. He also became more qualified with
British Association of Ski Instructors (BASI) so he could teach skiing on snow.
In 1991 he left his day job as a Draughtsman and followed his passion for teaching skiing and
adventure sports. Starting with two seasons on the Cairngorm Mountains and then working in
Courmayeur in Italy and also Chatel in France.
During the summer months he worked as an Outdoor Education Instructor at Calshot Activities Centre in
Southampton and became qualified to teach Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing, Power Boating and Sea
Kayaking.
Now in the Summer he splits his time in the French Alps, Southern Brittany and the Lake District
where he still teaches water sports.
In winter 2000 Kev worked as a ski instructor for the ESF (Ecole de Ski Francais) in La Plagne, La Tania and Courchevel. He also started race training in order to pass the Euro Test allowing him to work permanently in France.
In 2005 he achieved the BASI International Ski teacher Diploma (ISTD) and the French Equivalance.
In 2006 he decided to move permanently to France and has been teaching skiing in Les Gets and Morzine for the last 15 years. Kev worked as a ski instructor for the British Alpine Ski School (BASS) in Les Gets and Morzine for 8 years and has been teaching under the Les Gets Snowsports (LGS) umbrella since 2014.
Up to the age of 16, Kev was a gymnast and this has influenced his teaching on how the mind and
body have to work together, setting yourselves realistic goals and understanding the hurdles that
have to be overcome to achieve your end result. He strongly believes the journey must be enjoyable,
but at times it may also be frustrating and challenging.
He is always looking for new exciting sports to try, Kite Surfing and Wing Surfing are the next on
his list!
